समः समविभक्ताङ्गः स्निग्धवर्णः प्रतापवान्।
पीनवक्षा विशालाक्षो लक्ष्मीवाञ्शुभलक्षणः॥
samaḥ sama-vibhaktāṅgaḥ snigdha-varṇaḥ pratāpavān
pīna-vakṣā viśālākṣo lakṣmīvāñ śubha-lakṣaṇaḥ
samaḥ = He is neither too tall nor too short; sama-vibhakta-aṅgaḥ = the parts of His body such as His hands and feet are equally sized; snigdha-varṇaḥ = His complexion is moist; pratāpavān = He is splendorous; pīna-vakṣā = His chest is fleshy; viśāla-akṣaḥ = His eyes are long; lakṣmīvān = His bodily parts are lovely; śubha-lakṣaṇaḥ = and He possesses other auspicious characteristics.
He is neither too tall nor too short. The parts of His body such as His hands and feet are equally sized. His complexion is moist. He is splendorous. His chest is fleshy. His eyes are long. His bodily parts are lovely and He possesses other auspicious characteristics.
[28] ṣaṇnavaty-aṅgulocchrāyaḥ sārvabhaumo bhaven nṛpaḥ / bhruvau nāsā-puṭe netre karṇāv oṣṭhau ca cūcukau / kūrparau maṇi-bandhau ca jānunī vṛṣaṇau kaṭī / karau pādau sphicau yasya samau jñeyaḥ sa bhū-patiḥ / raktāntaiḥ padma-patrābhair locanaiḥ sukha-bhoginaḥ.
[29] netra-snehena saubhāgyaṁ danta-snehena bhojanam / tvacaḥ snehena śayyā ca pāda-snehena vāhanam.
Lord Rāmacandra’s spiritual body is neither too tall nor too short, His bodily parts are equally sized and His eyes are long. These are further characteristics of a great soul as noted in the Sāmudrika quote28. A moist complexion is also indicative of a great soul as noted by Vararuci quote29. That He is splendorous means He possesses all [kinds of] splendor.
Śrī Nārada has thus described Lord Rāma as possessing a divine and auspicious form that is meant to be constantly meditated upon by His surrendered devotees. In the next two texts, he describes the Lord’s qualities concerning His protection of His surrendered devotees.
