Chapter 1: Contents of the Rāmāyaṇa Summarized
Text 1.1.42
स तेषां प्रतिशुश्राव राक्षसानां तथा वने॥
sa teṣāṁ pratiśuśrāva rākṣasānāṁ tathā vane
saḥ = Rāma; teṣām = their; pratiśuśrāva = promised to fulfill prayer; rākṣasānām = of the rākṣasas; tathā = then; vane = in Daṇḍaka.
Rāma then promised to fulfill their prayer in Daṇḍaka, the forest of the rākṣasas.
Noticing the terrible condition of the sages, He promised to remove their obstacles [to their spiritual practices].
