निवेदयित्वाभिज्ञानं प्रवृत्तिं च निवेद्य च।
समाश्वास्य च वैदेहीं मर्दयामास तोरणम्॥
nivedayitvābhijñānaṁ pravṛttiṁ ca nivedya ca
samāśvāsya ca vaidehīṁ mardayām āsa toraṇam
nivedayitvā = submitted; abhijñānam = a token of recognition; pravṛttim ca = the events that had transpired and so on; nivedya ca = related to her; samāśvāsya = consoled her; ca = and; vaidehīm = to Sītā-devī; mardayām āsa = then he destroyed; toraṇam = the gate.
Hanumān submitted a token of recognition to Sītā-devī, related to her the events that had transpired and so on and consoled her. Then he destroyed the gate [of Aśoka-vana].
1 Even when flies, insects, worms or snakes fell on Lord Rāma’s body, He didn’t notice their presence because He was absorbed in thought of Sītā-devī.
Then Hanumān submitted [Lord Rāma’s] ring as a sign of [having been sent by] Rāmacandra and related the various events that had transpired [after she had been taken away by Rāvaṇa]: Lord Rāma had established [a bond of] friendship with Sugrīva, Sugrīva had assembled his army and so on in preparation for Lord Rāma’s arrival at Laṅkā. He also informed her that Rāma was exclusively thinking of Sītā:
naiva daṁśān na maśakān na kīṭān na sarīsṛpān
rāghavo ’panayed gatrāt tvad-gatenāntarātmanā
“Because He is absorbed in thought of you, He [no longer] drives away flies, insects, worms and snakes from His body.” (Rāmāyaṇa 5.36.42)1
Hanumān consoled Sītā-devī, “Your beloved Rāma will immediately come here.”
