The heroic great monkey Hanumān got to know that he was released from the brahmāstra by Brahmā’s boon with no effort from his end. Forgiving the offenses of the rākṣasas who had tied him up and who were dragging him here and there, he burnt the city of Laṅkā, except [the residence of] the princess of Mithilā, and returned to inform Rāma of the good news [about Sītā].

Hanumān certainly became a famous hero because of assaulting Laṅkā that was protected by Rāvaṇa, the Laṅkā that could not be assaulted by the suras or the asuras. He was a great monkey for he could kill many rākṣasas without getting hurt. Sītā alone was not burnt by the influence of her dynasty. Hanumān returned to inform Rāmacandra of the good news of having met Sītā-devī.
