Bāla-kāṇḍa
Chapter 13: Daśaratha Goes to the Sacrificial Arena
Text 1.13.10
भक्ष्यान्नपानैर्बहुभिः समुपेताः सुनिष्ठिताः।
तथा पौरजनस्यापि कर्तव्या बहुविस्तराः॥
bhakṣyānna-pānair bahubhiḥ samupetāḥ suniṣṭhitāḥ
tathā paurajanasyāpi kartavyā bahu-vistarāḥ
bhakṣya-anna-pānaiḥ = hard fruits, grains and drinks; bahubhiḥ = with several; samupetāḥ = [those houses should be] well equipped; suniṣṭhitāḥ = and firmly constructed; tathā = similar; paurajanasya = for the townspeople; api = too; kartavyāḥ = there should be; bahu-vistarāḥ = elaborate arrangements.
[Those houses should be] well equipped with several hard fruits, grains and drinks, and firmly constructed. There should be similar elaborate arrangements for the townspeople too.
The houses for the brāhmaṇas should be so firmly constructed that they cannot be shaken by winds and rainfall.
