ततोऽब्रवीद्द्विजान्वृद्धान्यज्ञकर्मसु निष्ठितान्।
स्थापत्ये निष्ठितांश्चैव वृद्धान्परमधार्मिकान्॥
कर्मान्तिकाञ्शिल्पकरान्वर्धकीन्खनकानपि।
गणकाञ्शिल्पिनश्चैव तथैव नटनर्तकान्।
तथा शुचीञ्शास्त्रविदः पुरुषान्सुबहुश्रुतान्॥
tato ’bravīd dvijān vṛddhān yajña-karmasu niṣṭhitān
sthāpatye niṣṭhitāṁś caiva vṛddhān parama-dhārmikān
karmāntikāñ śilpakarān vardhakīn khanakān api
gaṇakāñ śilpinaś caiva tathaiva naṭa-nartakān
tathā śucīñ śāstravidaḥ puruṣān subahu-śrutān
tataḥ = then; abravīt = he spoke; dvijān = twiceborn there; vṛddhān = to the senior; yajña-karmasu = in the performances of sacrifices; niṣṭhitān = experienced; sthāpatye = for procuring sacrificial ingredients; niṣṭhitān ca eva = those who had been engaged by kings in the past as supervisors; vṛddhān = elders; parama-dhārmikān = firmly adherent to Vedic dharma; karma-antikān = full-time laborers; śilpa-karān = manufacturers of bricks and so on; vardhakīn = carpenters for making the sacrificial implements and pillar; khanakān api = excavators for digging lakes, ponds and the like; gaṇakān = writers; śilpinaḥ ca eva = painters; tathā eva naṭa-nartakān = actors expressing mellows, dancers expressing attitudes; tathā = as well as; śucīn = who were pure; śāstravidaḥ = knowers of sacrificial guidebooks [as follows]; puruṣān = persons; subahu-śrutān = very well learned.
He then spoke to the senior twiceborn there experienced in the performances of sacrifices, those who had been engaged by kings in the past as supervisors for procuring sacrificial ingredients, elders firmly adherent to Vedic dharma, full-time laborers, manufacturers of bricks and so on, carpenters for making the sacrificial implements and pillar, excavators for digging lakes, ponds and the like, writers, painters, actors expressing mellows, dancers expressing attitudes as well as very well learned persons who were pure knowers of sacrificial guidebooks [as follows].
