Chapter 14: The Aśvamedha Sacrifice
Text 1.14.41
कारितास्तत्र बहवो विहिताः शास्त्रदर्शनात्॥
kāritās tatra bahavo vihitāḥ śāstra-darśanāt
kāritāḥ = were conducted; tatra = there; bahavaḥ = many; vihitāḥ = prescribed sacrificial ceremonies; śāstra-darśanāt = in the light of scriptural injunctions.
Many prescribed sacrificial ceremonies were conducted there in the light of scriptural injunctions.
Though the Aśvamedha sacrifice has three major ceremonies to be conducted in three days, because other sacrificial ceremonies have been noticed in the śāstras, the king had them performed. What were they? That is noted in the next verse.
