Chapter 14: The Aśvamedha Sacrifice
Text 1.14.50
एवमुक्तो नरपतिर्ब्राह्मणैर्वेदपारगैः।
गवां शतसहस्राणि दश तेभ्यो ददौ नृपः॥
evam ukto nara-patir brāhmaṇair veda-pāragaiḥ
gavāṁ śata-sahasrāṇi daśa tebhyo dadau nṛpaḥ
evam = was thus; uktaḥ = addressed; nara-patiḥ = the Lord of men; brāhmaṇaiḥ = by those brāhmaṇas; veda-pāragaiḥ = fully experienced in the Vedas; gavām = cows; śata-sahasrāṇi daśa = 1,000,000; tebhyaḥ = them; dadau = gave in charity; nṛpaḥ = then, the king.
The Lord of men was thus addressed by those brāhmaṇas fully experienced in the Vedas. Then, the king gave them 1,000,000 cows in charity.
