उपायः को वधे तस्य राक्षसाधिपतेः सुराः।
यमहं तं समास्थाय निहन्यामृषिकण्टकम्॥
upāyaḥ ko vadhe tasya rākṣasādhipateḥ surāḥ
yam ahaṁ taṁ samāsthāya nihanyām ṛṣi-kaṇṭakam
upāyaḥ = is the means; kaḥ = what; vadhe = to kill; tasya = that; rākṣasa-adhipateḥ = emperor of the rākṣasas; surāḥ = O demigods; yam = which; aham = I; tam = that; samāsthāya = by accepting; nihanyām = will be able to kill; ṛṣi-kaṇṭakam = tormentor of the sages.
O demigods, what is the means to kill that emperor of the rākṣasas by accepting which I will be able to kill that tormentor of the sages?
