Chapter 18: The Advent of Rāma, Lakṣmaṇa, Bharata and Śatrughna
Text 1.18.33
यदा हि हयमारूढो मृगयांयाति राघवः।
तदैनं पृष्ठतोऽभ्येति सधनुः परिपालयन्॥
yadā hi hayam ārūḍho mṛgayāṁ yāti rāghavaḥ
tadainaṁ pṛṣṭhato ’bhyeti sadhanuḥ paripālayan
yadā = as soon as; hi = indeed; hayam = a horse; ārūḍhaḥ = gets on; mṛgayām = to hunt; yāti = and goes off; rāghavaḥ = Rāghava; tadā enam = Him; pṛṣṭhataḥ = from behind; abhyeti = Lakṣmaṇa follows; sadhanuḥ = with a bow; paripālayan = to protect Him.
Indeed, as soon as Rāghava gets on a horse and goes off to hunt, Lakṣmaṇa follows Him from behind with a bow to protect Him.
Lakṣmaṇa would follow Him out of apprehension and with great speed be just behind him.
