Bāla-kāṇḍa
Chapter 18: The Advent of Rāma, Lakṣmaṇa, Bharata and Śatrughna
Text 1.18.35

स चतुर्भिर्महाभागैः पुत्रैर्दशरथः प्रियैः।
बभूव परमप्रीतो देवैरिव पितामहः॥

sa caturbhir mahā-bhāgaiḥ putrair daśarathaḥ priyaiḥ
babhūva
parama-prīto devair iva pitāmahaḥ

saḥ daśarathaḥ = Daśaratha; caturbhiḥ = with His four; mahā-bhāgaiḥ = and greatly fortunate; putraiḥ = sons; priyaiḥ = dear; babhūva = became; parama-prītaḥ = extremely pleased; devaiḥ = by the demigods presiding over the four cardinal directions; iva = just as; pitāmahaḥ = Grandfather Brahmā was pleased.

Daśaratha became extremely pleased with His four dear and greatly fortunate sons just as Grandfather Brahmā was pleased by the demigods presiding over the four cardinal directions.

The first purpose of this incarnation was to completely fulfill the cherished desires of Daśaratha, His dear worshipper. Daśaratha’s satisfaction is described in this verse.
