yasmād viprendram adrākṣaṁ suprabhātā niśā mama
pūrvaṁ rāja-rṣi-śabdena tapasā dyotita-prabhaḥ
brahma-rṣitvam anu prāptaḥ pūjyo ’si bahudhā mayā
yasmāt = because; vipra-indram = the best of the brāhmaṇas; adrākṣam = I saw today; suprabhātā = has been very auspicious; niśā = night; mama = my; pūrvam = previously; rāja-ṛṣi-śabdena = with the title of “rājarṣi”; tapasā = through austerities; dyotita-prabhaḥ = you became filled with illuminating splendor; brahma-rṣitvam = a brahmarṣi; anu = and then; prāptaḥ = and became; pūjyaḥ = worshipable; asi = [therefore,] you are; bahudhā = several times over; mayā = to me.
Because I saw the best of the brāhmaṇas today, my night has been very auspicious. Previously, with the title of “rājarṣi” and then, through austerities, you became filled with illuminating splendor and became a brahmarṣi. [Therefore], you are worshipable to me several times over.
1 Within a single lifetime.
Viśvāmitra is to be worshipped several times over because he was first a rājarṣi and then he became a brahmarṣi.1
