Chapter 2: Lord Brahmā Instructs Vālmīki
Text 1.2.27

उपविष्टे तदा तस्मिं साक्षाल्लोकपितामहे।
तद्गतेनैव मनसा वाल्मीकिर्ध्यानमास्थितः॥

upaviṣṭe tadā tasmiṁ sākṣāl loka-pitāmahe
tad-gatenaiva manasā vālmīkir dhyānam āsthitaḥ

upaviṣṭe = sat down; tadā = even after; tasmin = the; sākṣāt = personally; loka-pitāmahe = the grandfather of the worlds; tad-gatena = of the violent death of the the krauñca bird; eva =still; manasā = in his mind; vālmīkiḥ =Vālmīki; dhyānam = in thought; āsthitaḥ = became.

Even after Lord Brahmā, the grandfather of the worlds, personally sat down [in front of him], Vālmīki became absorbed in thought of the violent death of the krauñca bird in his mind.
