रहस्यं च प्रकाशं च यद्वृत्तं तस्य धीमतः रामस्य सहसौमित्रे राक्षसानां च सर्वशः।
वैदेह्याश्चैव यद्वृत्तं प्रकाशं यदि वा रहः तच्चाप्यविदितं सर्वं विदितं ते भविष्यति॥
rahasyaṁ ca prakāśaṁ ca yad vṛttaṁ tasya dhīmataḥ
rāmasya saha-saumitre rākṣasānāṁ ca sarvaśaḥ
vaidehyāś caiva yad vṛttaṁ prakāśaṁ yadi vā rahaḥ
tac cāpy aviditaṁ sarvaṁ viditaṁ te bhaviṣyati
rahasyam ca = in private; prakāśam ca = or in public; yat = that vṛttam = has transpired; tasya dhīmataḥ = to the intelligent; rāmasya = Rāma; saha-saumitreḥ = Lakṣmaṇa; rākṣasānām ca = the rākṣasas; sarvaśaḥ = all; vaidehyāḥ ca = Sītā-devī; ca eva = and others; api = as well as; yat vṛttam = all that has transpired; prakāśam = in public; yadi va = or; rahaḥ = in private; tat ca api= as well as; aviditam = that are unknown; sarvam = all; viditam = known; te = to you; bhaviṣyati = will be.
All that has transpired in private or in public to Sītā-devī and others, the intelligent Rāma, Lakṣmaṇa and the rākṣasas, as well as all that are unknown to you will become known to you.
Lord Brahmā then instructed Vālmīki to write out the details in the events surrounding Lord Rāma and blessed him with the ability to know all activities that he needed to describe. Dhīmataḥ indicates that Lord Rāma was intelligent, which further indicates that there is a possibility that some of His activities were in public, that is, known to all, and that other activities were in private, that is, some activities took place without the knowledge of others. Rākṣasāṇām indicates that Vālmīki would also know about the activities of the rākṣasas headed by Rāvaṇa. Vaidehyāś ca indicates that he would know about the activities of Sītā-devī, Bharata and others. Indeed, all that was yet unknown to Śrī Vālmīki, that is, incidents not related by Nārada Muni, would become known to Vālmīki.
