Chapter 21: The Anger and Appeasal of Viśvāmitra
Text 1.21.9
कृतास्त्रमकृतास्त्रं वा नैनं शक्ष्यन्ति राक्षसाः।
गुप्तं कुशिकपुत्रेण ज्वलनेनामृतं यथा॥
kṛtāstram akṛtāstraṁ vā nainaṁ śakṣyanti rākṣasāḥ
guptaṁ kuśika-putreṇa jvalanenāmṛtaṁ yathā
kṛta-astram = whether He is trained in weaponry; akṛta-astram vā = or otherwise; na enam śakṣyanti = cannot overpower Rāma; rākṣasāḥ = the rākṣasas; guptam = for He will be protected; kuśika-putreṇa = by the son of Kuśika; jvalanena = [is protected] by a blazing circle of fire; amṛtam = nectar; yathā = just as.
The rākṣasas cannot overpower Rāma whether He is trained in weaponry or otherwise for He will be protected by the son of Kuśika just as nectar is protected by a blazing circle of fire.
It is clear from the Mahābhārata that the nectar [of the demigods] is well protected by a circle of fire.
