Chapter 24: The History of Sarayū

ताभ्यां तु तावुभौ कृत्वा प्रणाममतिधार्मिकौ।
तीरं दक्षिणमासाद्य जग्मतुर्लघुविक्रमौ॥
tābhyāṁ tu tāv ubhau kṛtvā praṇāmam atidhārmikau
tīraṁ dakṣiṇam āsādya jagmatur laghu-vikramau
tābhyām tu = unto the two rivers; tau = [then,] Rāma and Lakṣmaṇa; ubhau = both; kṛtvā = offered; praṇāmam = their respectful obeisances; atidhārmikau = extremely dhārmika by nature; tīram = bank; dakṣiṇam = the southern; āsādya = reaching; jagmatuḥ = they walked; laghu-vikramau = in quick steps.
Then, Rāma and Lakṣmaṇa, both extremely dhārmika by nature, offered Their respectful obeisances unto the two rivers. Reaching the southern bank, they walked in quick steps.
1 “At the confluence of the rivers” means “on the bank of the confluence of the rivers.”
They had stayed the previous night at the confluence of the rivers.1 Early in the morning, they set out towards the south and crossed over Gaṅgā. Thus, it is to be understood that the forest of Tāṭakā was on the southern bank of Gaṅgā.
