Chapter 26: The Killing of the Demoness Tāṭakā
Text 1.26.14
न ह्येनामुत्सहे हन्तुं स्त्रीस्वभावेन रक्षिताम्।
वीर्यं चास्या गतिं चापि हनिष्यामीति मे मतिः॥
na hy enām utsahe hantuṁ strī-svabhāvena rakṣitām
vīryaṁ cāsyā gatiṁ cāpi haniṣyāmīti me matiḥ
na hi enām utsahe hantum = I cannot kill her; strī-svabhāvena = by the nature of a woman; rakṣitām = as she is protected; vīryam ca = strength; asyāḥ = her; gatim ca api = and movement; haniṣyāmi = I should destroy; iti = that; me matiḥ = I think.
I cannot kill her as she is protected by the nature of a woman. I think that I should destroy her strength and movement.
Śrī Rāmacandra wanted to cut off her hands and feet and thus destroy her strength and movement.
