Chapter 27: Viśvāmitra Teaches Rāma to Summon Divine Weapons
Text 1.27.8

धर्मपाशमहं राम कालपाशं तथैव च।
पाशं वारुणमस्त्रं च ददाम्यहमनुत्तमम्॥

dharma-pāśam ahaṁ rāma kāla-pāśaṁ tathaiva ca
pāśaṁ
vāruṇam astraṁ ca dadāmy aham anuttamam

dharma-pāśam = the noose of Dharma; aham = I will give You; rāma = O Rāma; kāla-pāśam tathā eva ca = and the noose of Death; pāśam vāruṇam = the noose of Varuṇa; astram ca = and weapon; dadāmi = will give You; aham = I; anuttamam = the excellent.

O Rāma, I will give You the noose of Dharma and the noose of Death. I will give You the excellent noose and weapon of Varuṇa.1

1 The noose of Dharma is Dharma-pāśa. The noose of Death is Kāla-pāśa. The noose of Varuṇa is Varuṇa-pāśa.
