Chapter 29: The History of Siddhāśrama
Text 1.29.25
एवमुक्तस्तदा राजा भगवान्पुरुषोत्तमः।
उवाचेषत्स्मितं कृत्वा यजमानं महाबलिम्॥
evam uktas tadā rājā bhagavān puruṣottamaḥ
uvāceṣat smitaṁ kṛtvā yajamānaṁ mahā-balim
evam = thus; uktaḥ = when had spoken; tadā rājā = the king; bhagavān = the Supreme Personality of Godhead; puruṣottamaḥ = Puruṣottama; uvāca = spoke as follows; iṣat = mildly; smitam kṛtvā = smiled and; yajamānam = the performer of sacrifices; mahā-balim = to the great Bali.
When the king had spoken thus, the Supreme Personality of Godhead Puruṣottama mildly smiled and spoke as follows to the great Bali, the performer of sacrifices.
