Chapter 30: Rāma and Lakṣmaṇa Protect Viśvāmitra’s Sacrifice
Text 1.30.1

अथ तौ देशकालज्ञौ राजपुत्रावरिन्दमौ।
देशे काले च वाक्यज्ञावब्रूतां कौशिकं वचः॥

atha tau deśa-kālajñau rāja-putrāv arindamau
deśe
kāle ca vākyajñāv abrūtāṁ kauśikaṁ vacaḥ

atha tau = the two; deśa-kālajñau = were knowers of place and time; rāja-putrau = princes; arindamau = who defeated Their foes; deśe kāle ca vākyajñau = as knowers of what to speak at the right place and time; abrūtām = They spoke; kauśikam = to the son of Kuśika; vacaḥ = the following words.

The two princes who defeated Their foes were knowers of place and time. As knowers of what to speak at the right place and time, They spoke the following words to the son of Kuśika.

This chapter describes Lord Rāma’s defeat of Subāhu, Mārīca and other evil demons.
