Canto 1 - Boyhood
Bāla-kāṇḍa
Chapter 33: Kuśanābha’s Daughters marry Brahmadatta
Text 1.33.22

यथाक्रमं ततः पाणीन्जग्राह रघुनन्दन।
ब्रह्मदत्तो महीपालस्तासां देवपतिर्यथा॥

yathā-kramaṁ tataḥ pāṇīn jagrāha raghu-nandana
brahmadatto
mahī-pālas tāsāṁ deva-patir yathā

yathā-kramam = one after another; tataḥ = then; pāṇīn jagrāha = accepted the hands; raghu-nandana = O beloved of the Raghus; brahmadattaḥ = Brahmadatta; mahī-pālaḥ = king; tāsām = of those girls; deva-patiḥ = the king of the demigods; yathā = like.

O beloved of the Raghus, then, like the king of the demigods, King Brahmadatta accepted the hands of those girls one after another.

Deva-patir yathā indicates that Brahmadatta was equal to Indra in his prosperity.
