Chapter 34: Satyavatī, Viśvāmitra’s Elder Sister
Text 1.34.23
रामोऽपि सहसौमित्रिः किञ्चिदागतविस्मयः।
प्रशस्य मुनिशार्दूलं निद्रां समुपसेवते॥
rāmo ’pi saha-saumitriḥ kiñcid-āgata-vismayaḥ
praśasya muni-śārdūlaṁ nidrāṁ samupasevate
rāmaḥ = Rāma; api = also; saha-saumitriḥ = Lakṣmaṇa, the son of Sumitrā; kiñcid-āgata-vismayaḥ = where somewhat astonished; praśasya = glorifying; muni-śārdūlam = the best of sages; nidrām = to sleep; samupasevate = They went.
Rāma and Lakṣmaṇa, the son of Sumitrā, were also somewhat astonished. Glorifying the best of sages, Lord Rāma went to sleep.
1 We should always remember that Rāma is the Supreme Personality of Godhead, who is acting like a human being, apparently overcome by sleep and so on.
Lord Rāma and Lakṣmaṇa were somewhat overcome by astonishment because They were feeling sleepy. They slept nicely because of having laboriously walked that day.1
