Chapter 35: The History of Gaṅga

चोदितो रामवाक्येन विश्वामित्रो महामुनिः।
वृद्धिं जन्म च गङ्गाया वक्तुमेवोपचक्रमे॥
codito rāma-vākyena viśvāmitro mahā-muniḥ
vṛddhiṁ janma ca gaṅgāyā vaktum evopacakrame
coditaḥ = requested; rāma-vākyena = by Rāma’s words; viśvāmitraḥ = Viśvāmitra; mahā-muniḥ = the great sages; vṛddhim = expansion throughout the three worlds; janma = birth; ca = and; gaṅgāyāḥ = Gaṅgā’s; vaktum eva = to speak about; upacakrame = began.
Requested by Rāma’s words, the great sage Viśvāmitra began to speak about Gaṅgā’s expansion throughout the three worlds and her birth.
