Chapter 35: The History of Gaṅga
Text 1.35.23

एते ते शैलराजस्य सुते लोकनमस्कृते।
गङ्गा च सरितां श्रेष्ठा उमा देवी च राघव॥

ete te śaila-rājasya sute loka-namaskṛte
gaṅgā
ca saritāṁ śreṣṭhā umā devī ca rāghava

ete = these are; te = the; śaila-rājasya = of the king of the mountains, Himavān; sute = the two daughters; loka-namaskṛte = who are respected throughout the world; gaṅgā ca = Gaṅgā; saritām = of rivers; śreṣṭhā = the best; umā = Umā; devī = goddess; ca = and; rāghava = O descendant of Raghu.

O descendant of Raghu, these are the two daughters of the king of mountains, Himavān: Gaṅgā, the best of rivers, and goddess Umā.
