Chapter 36: Umā Curses the Demigods
Text 1.36.19
ततो देवाः पुनरिदमूचुश्चाथ हुताशनम्।
प्रविश त्वं महातेजो रौद्रं वायुसमन्वितः॥
tato devāḥ punar idam ūcuś cātha hutāśanam
praviśa tvaṁ mahā-tejo raudraṁ vāyu-samanvitaḥ
tataḥ = then; devāḥ = the demigods; punaḥ idam ūcuḥ ca atha = requested the same; hutāśanam = to Agni thus; praviśa tvam = please enter; mahā-tejaḥ raudram = the greatly powerful semen of Lord Rudra; vāyu-samanvitaḥ = along with Vāyu.
Then, the demigods requested the same to Agni thus: Along with Vāyu, please enter the greatly powerful semen of Lord Rudra.
As earth became filled with the powerful semen of Lord Śiva, considering that she would break up by his power, the demigods spoke to Agni. Punar here indicates that Agni was frightened of entering the powerful semen of the Lord; therefore, they had to reassure him of his safety and requested that he join in with Vāyu to spread the fire.
