Chapter 37: The History of Skanda
Text 1.37.9
ज्येष्ठा शैलेन्द्रदुहिता मानयिष्यति तत्सुतम्।
उमायास्तद्बहुमतं भविष्यति न संशयः॥
jyeṣṭhā śailendra-duhitā mānayiṣyati tat-sutam
umāyās tad bahu-mataṁ bhaviṣyati na saṁśayaḥ
jyeṣṭhā = the elder; śaila-indra-duhitā = daughter of Himavān; mānayiṣyati tat-sutam = will give birth to Agni’s son with great respect; umāyāḥ tad bahu-matam bhaviṣyati = Umā will honor this act of her elder sister; na saṁśayaḥ = do not doubt this.
The elder daughter of Himavān will give birth to Agni’s son with great respect. Umā will honor this act of her elder sister.
Here Lord Brahmā anticipates the demigods’ apprehensions, “Will Gaṅgā agree to this? Will Umā not become angry?”
