Chapter 39: Sagara’s Sons Search for the Sacrificial Horse
Text 1.39.13
तद् गच्छत विचिन्वध्वं पुत्रका भद्रमस्तु वः।
समुद्रमालिनीं सर्वां पृथिवीमनुगच्छत॥
tad gacchata vicinvadhvaṁ putrakā bhadram astu vaḥ
samudra-mālinīṁ sarvāṁ pṛthivīm anugacchata
tat = so; gacchata = go; vicinvadhvam = and search [for the horse]; putrakāḥ = my sons; bhadram astu vaḥ = may there be auspiciousness unto you; samudra-mālinīm = surrounded by the oceans; sarvām pṛthivīm = all over the earth; anugacchata = go and search.
So, my sons, go and search [for the horse]. May there be auspiciousness unto you. Go all over the earth surrounded by the oceans and search!
Sagara wanted his sons to search for and find out how the horse was stolen. He was also busy with his sacrificial duties at hand. Therefore, he was not able to trace out the movements and destination of the rākṣasas who had stolen the horse, but he wanted his sons to find out.
