Bāla-kāṇḍa
Chapter 39: Sagara’s Sons Search for the Sacrificial Horse
Text 1.39.16
दीक्षितः पौत्रसहितः सोपाध्यायगणो ह्यहम्।
इह स्थास्यामि भद्रं वो यावत्तुरगदर्शनम्॥
dīkṣitaḥ pautra-sahitaḥ sopādhyāya-gaṇo hy aham
iha sthāsyāmi bhadraṁ vo yāvat turaga-darśanam
dīkṣitaḥ = initiated into the sacrifice; pautra-sahitaḥ = my grandsons; sa-upādhyāya-gaṇaḥ hi = with the priests; aham = I; iha = here; sthāsyāmi = will stay; bhadram vaḥ = may there be auspiciousness unto all of you; yāvat = until; turaga-darśanam = you see the horse.
Initiated into the sacrifice, I will stay here with the priests and my grandson until you see the horse. May there be auspiciousness unto all of you.
[According to scriptural injunctions,] it is inappropriate for Sagara to leave the sacrifice and go search for the horse.
