Chapter 40: Lord Kapila Punishes Sagara’s Sons
Text 1.40.16
तं ते प्रदक्षिणं कृत्वा दिशापालं महागजम्।
मानयन्तो हि ते राम जग्मुर्भित्त्वा रसातलम्॥
taṁ te pradakṣiṇaṁ kṛtvā diśā-pālaṁ mahā-gajam
mānayanto hi te rāma jagmur bhittvā rasātalam
tam = it; te = they; pradakṣiṇam kṛtvā = circumambulated; diśā-pālam = guarding a region of earth; mahā-gajam = the great elephant; mānayantaḥ hi = worshiping; te = they; rāma = O Rāma; jagmuḥ = proceeded further; bhittvā = and piercing through; rasātalam = Rasātala.
O Rāma, they circumambulated it, worshipping the great elephant guarding a region [of the earth], and piercing through Rasātala, they proceeded further.
