Chapter 42: Bhagīratha’s Austerities for Gaṅgā’s Descent
Text 1.42.19
यदि मे भगवन्प्रीतो यद्यस्ति तपसः फलम्।
सगरस्यात्मजाः सर्वे मत्तः सलिलमाप्नुयुः॥
yadi me bhagavan prīto yady asti tapasaḥ phalam
sagarasyātmajāḥ sarve mattaḥ salilam āpnuyuḥ
yadi = if; me = with me; bhagavan = O Lord; prītaḥ = you are pleased; yadi = and if; asti tapasaḥ phalam = my austerity successful; sagarasyā atmajāḥ = the sons of Sagara; sarve = all; mattaḥ = from me; salilam = their oblations and water; āpnuyuḥ = may receive.
O Lord, if you are pleased and if my austerity is successful, may all the sons of Sagara receive their oblations of water from me.
