Chapter 44: Bhagīratha Delivers his Uncles
Text 1.44.1
स गत्वा सागरं राजा गङ्गयानुगतस्तदा।
प्रविवेश तलं भूमेर्यत्र ते भस्मसात्कृताः॥
sa gatvā sāgaraṁ rājā gaṅgayānugatas tadā
praviveśa talaṁ bhūmer yatra te bhasmasātkṛtāḥ
saḥ gatvā = reached sāgaram = the ocean; rājā = King Bhagīratha; gaṅgayā = by Gaṅgā; anugataḥ = being followed; tadā = then; praviveśa = he entered; talam bhūmeḥ = Pātāla; yatra = where; te = the sons of Sagara; bhasmasāt kṛtāḥ = had been totally burnt up into ashes.
King Bhagīratha, being followed by Gaṅgā, reached the ocean. He then entered Pātāla where the sons of Sagara had been totally burnt up into ashes.
