Chapter 44: Bhagīratha Delivers his Uncles
Text 1.44.3

तारिता नरशार्दूल दिवं याताश्च देववत्।
षष्टिः पुत्रसहस्राणि सगरस्य महात्मनः॥

tāritā nara-śārdūla divaṁ yātāś ca devavat
ṣaṣṭiḥ
putra-sahasrāṇi sagarasya mahātmanaḥ

tāritāḥ = have been delivered; nara-śārdūla = O tiger among men; divam = to the heavens; yātāḥ = sent; ca = and; devavat = like the demigods; ṣaṣṭiḥ putra-sahasrāṇi = the 60,000 sons; sagarasya = Sagara; mahā-ātmanaḥ= of the great soul.

O tiger among men, the 60,000 sons of the great soul Sagara have been delivered and sent to the heavens like the demigods.

The sons of Sagara were delivered from their ghostlike existence.1

1 The sons of Sagara had become pretas, ghostlike creatures, when they were burnt into ashes by Lord Kapila.
