अथ देवा महादेवं शङ्करं शरणार्थिनः।
जग्मुः पशुपतिं रुद्रं त्राहि त्राहीति तुष्टुवुः।
एवमुक्तस्ततो देवैर्देवदेवेश्वरः प्रभुः॥
प्रादुरासीत्ततोऽत्रैव शङ्खचक्रधरो हरिः।
उवाचैनं स्मितं कृत्वा रुद्रं शूलभृतं हरिः॥
atha devā mahādevaṁ śaṅkaraṁ śaraṇārthinaḥ
jagmuḥ paśupatiṁ rudraṁ trāhi trāhīti tuṣṭuvuḥ
evam uktas tato devair deva-deveśvaraḥ prabhuḥ
prādurāsīt tato ’traiva śaṅkha-cakra-dharo hariḥ
uvācainaṁ smitaṁ kṛtvā rudraṁ śūlabhṛtaṁ hariḥ
atha = then; devāḥ = the devas; mahādevam = Mahādeva; śaṅkaram = Śaṅkara; śaraṇa-arthinaḥ = who needed protection from the poison; jagmuḥ = beseeched; paśupatim = Lord of all creatures and the Rudras; rudram = the fierce; trāhi trāhi iti = “please protect us! please protect us”; tuṣṭuvuḥ = and prayed; evam uktaḥ tataḥ devaiḥ = being addressed thus by the devas; deva-deva-īśvaraḥ = the master of the gods of the gods; prabhuḥ = Lord Śiva; prādurāsīt = appeared before them; tataḥ = then; atra eva = at the same spot; śaṅkha-cakradharaḥ hariḥ = Lord Hari bearing a disc and conch [appeared]; uvāca = told; enam = as follows; smitam kṛtvā = smiling; rudram = Rudra; śūlabhṛtam = the bearer of a trident; hariḥ = Lord Hari.
Then, the devas who needed protection from the poison beseeched Mahādeva Śaṅkara, the fierce Lord of all creatures and the Rudras, and prayed, “Please protect us! Please protect us!” Being addressed thus by the devas, Lord Śiva, the master of the gods of the gods, appeared before them. Then, Lord Hari bearing a disc and conch [appeared] at the same spot. Smiling, Lord Hari told Rudra, the bearer of a trident, as follows.
