Chapter 48: Gautama Curses Ahalyā
Text 1.48.22
आत्मानं मां च देवेश सर्वदा रक्ष मानद।
इन्द्रस्तु प्रहसन्वाक्यमहल्यामिदमब्रवीत्॥
ātmānaṁ māṁ ca deveśa sarvadā rakṣa mānada
indras tu prahasan vākyam ahalyām idam abravīt
ātmānam mām ca = yourself and me; deva-iśa = O Lord of the devas; sarvadā = always; rakṣa = protect; mānada = O respectful one; indraḥ tu = Indra; prahasan = then laughingly; vākyam = words; ahalyām = to Ahalyā; idam = the following; abravīt spoke.
O Lord of the devas, O respectful one, always protect yourself and me. Indra then laughingly spoke the following words to Ahalyā.
