Chapter 52: Śabalā, Vasiṣṭha’s Wish-fulfilling Cow

कच्चित्ते सम्भृता भृत्याः कच्चित्तिष्ठन्ति शासने।
कच्चित्ते विजिताः सर्वे रिपवो रिपुसूदन॥
kaccit te sambhṛtā bhṛtyāḥ kaccit tiṣṭhanti śāsane
kaccit te vijitāḥ sarve ripavo ripu-sūdana
kaccit te sambhṛtāḥ bhṛtyāḥ = I hope your servants are well maintained; kaccit tiṣṭhanti śāsane = I hope they are within your control; kaccit te vijitāḥ sarve ripavaḥ = I hope you have vanquished all of your enemies; ripu-sūdana = O destroyer of enemies.
O destroyer of enemies, I hope your servants are well maintained. I hope they are within your control. I hope you have vanquished all of your enemies.
“I hope your servants are well maintained” means “I hope your servants remain well nourished.”
