Chapter 57: King Triśaṅku’s Desire
Text 1.57.10-11

एतस्मिन्नेव काले तु सत्यवादी जितेन्द्रियः।
त्रिशङ्कुरिति विख्यात इक्ष्वाकुकुलवर्धनः॥

तस्य बुद्धिः समुत्पन्ना यजेयमिति राघव।
गच्छेयं स्वशरीरेण देवतानां परां गतिम्॥

etasminn eva kāle tu satya-vādī jitendriyaḥ
triśaṅkur
iti vikhyāta ikṣvāku-kula-vardhanaḥ

tasya buddhiḥ samutpannā yajeyam iti rāghava
gaccheyaṁ
sva-śarīreṇa devatānāṁ parāṁ gatim

etasmin eva kāle tu = it was at this time that; satya-vādī = a truthful; jita-indriyaḥ = of controlled senses; triśaṅkuḥ iti vikhyātaḥ = fomous as Triśaṅku; ikṣvāku-kula-vardhanaḥ = king who increased [the prestige] of Ikṣvāku’s dynasty; tasya buddhiḥ samutpannā = thought; yajeyam iti = I will perform a sacrifice; rāghava = O descendant of Raghu; gaccheyam = and go; sva-śarīreṇa = by myself, in my own body; devatānām of the celestials; parām gatim = to Svarga, the great destination.

O descendant of Raghu, it was at this time that, a truthful king of controlled senses who increased [the prestige] of Ikṣvāku’s dynasty famous as Triśaṅku thought, “I will perform a sacrifice, and go to Svarga, the great destination of the celestials, by myself, in my own body.”
