Chapter 58: King Triśaṅku Cursed
Text 1.58.16

कारुण्यात्स महातेजा वाक्यं परमधार्मिकः।
इदं जगाद भद्रं ते राजानं घोररूपिणम्॥

kāruṇyāt sa mahā-tejā vākyaṁ parama-dhārmikaḥ
idaṁ
jagāda bhadraṁ te rājānaṁ ghora-rūpiṇam

kāruṇyāt = out of compassion; saḥ mahā-tejāḥ = Viśvāmitra of great prowess; vākyam = words; parama-dhārmikaḥ = and supreme adherence to Vedic dharma; idam = the following; jagāda = spoke; bhadram te = auspiciousness unto you; rājānam = to the king; ghora-rūpiṇam = who was frightful to see.

Auspiciousness unto You. Out of compassion, Viśvāmitra of great prowess and supreme adherence to Vedic dharma spoke the following words to the king who was frightful to see.

[Śatānanda is narrating Viśvāmitra’s history to Lord Rāma.] Śatānanda thinks that Śrī Rāmacandra might become angry for dishonoring His dynasty and therefore consoles Him by saying, “Auspiciousness unto You.”
