Chapter 58: King Triśaṅku Cursed
Text 1.58.20
सशरीरो दिवं यायामिति मे सौम्य दर्शनम्।
मया चेष्टं क्रतुशतं तच्च नावाप्यते फलम्॥
सशरीरो दिवं यायामिति मे सौम्य दर्शनम्।
मया चेष्टं क्रतुशतं तच्च नावाप्यते फलम्॥
saśarīraḥ = in my own body; divam yāyām iti me saumya darśanam = O gentle one, I had the idea of going to the heavens; mayā ca iṣṭam kratu-śatam = I also wanted to perform a hundred sacrifices; tat ca na avāpyate phalam = but I have not attained the result of performing them.
O gentle one, I had the idea of going to the heavens in my own body. I also wanted to perform a hundred sacrifices, but I have not attained the result of performing them.
Triśaṅku had not attained the result of performing a hundred sacrifices: going to Svarga in one’s own body.
