नानाहिताग्निर्नायज्वा न क्षुद्रो वा न तस्करः।
कश्चिदासीदयोध्यायां न च निर्वृत्तसङ्करः॥
nānāhitāgnir nāyajvā na kṣudro vā na taskaraḥ
kaścid āsīd ayodhyāyāṁ na ca nirvṛtta-saṅkaraḥ
na = none anāhita agniḥ = who was not daily performing the Agnihotra fire sacrifices; na = no one; ayajvā = who was not performing the Soma sacrifice; na = no one; kṣudraḥ vā = less educated and less opulent fit for condemnation; na = no one; taskaraḥ = who was a thief; kaścit = a single person; āsīt = there was; ayodhyāyām = in Ayodhyā; na = not; ca = and; nirvṛtta-saṅkaraḥ = one who caused impurity.
There was not a single person in Ayodhyā who was not daily performing the Agnihotra fire sacrifices or the Soma sacrifice. No one there was meagerly educated or opulent. No one there was a thief or one who caused impurity.
Na kṣudraḥ vā indicates that no one there was meagrely educated or opulent and thus fit to be condemned. Nivṛtta-saṅkaraḥ (“one who causes impurity”) refers to those who sow seeds on others’ lands and so on. Such people did not exist in Ayodhyā.
