Chapter 61: Śunaḥśepa Sold
Text 1.61.9
उपाध्यायवचः श्रुत्वा स राजा पुरुषर्षभ।
अन्वियेष महाबुद्धिः पशुं गोभिः सहस्रशः॥
upādhyāya-vacaḥ śrutvā sa rājā puruṣa-rṣabha
anviyeṣa mahā-buddhiḥ paśuṁ gobhiḥ sahasraśaḥ
upādhyāya-vacaḥ śrutvā = hearing the priest’s words; saḥ = that; rājā = king; puruṣa-rṣabha = O best of men; anviyeṣa = searched for; mahā-buddhiḥ = greatly intelligent; paśum = a [human] animal; gobhiḥ sahasraśaḥ = for a price of a thousand cows.
O best of men, hearing the priest’s words, that greatly intelligent king searched for a [human] animal for a price of a thousand cows.
