Chapter 62: Śunaḥśepa Saved
Text 1.62.7
त्वं मे नाथो ह्यनाथस्य भव भव्येन चेतसा।
पितेव पुत्रं धर्मात्मंस्त्रातुमर्हसि किल्बिषात्॥
tvaṁ me nātho hy anāthasya bhava bhavyena cetasā
piteva putraṁ dharmātmaṁs trātum arhasi kilbiṣāt
tvam = you; me = my; nāthaḥ = protector; hi = for; anāthasya = I am without a protector; bhava = should become; bhavyena = with an auspicious; cetasā = heart; pitā iva = like a father; putram = protects his son; dharma-ātman = O one of dhārmika mind; trātum arhasi = protect me; kilbiṣāt = from this calamity.
With an auspicious heart, you should become my protector, for I am without a protector. O one of dhārmika mind, like a father protects his son, protect me from this calamity.
Kilbiṣāt (“from this calamity”) indicates that Viśvāmitra should protect Śunaḥśepa from the cause of this calamity.
