Chapter 63: Viśvāmitra Falls Prey to Lust
Text 1.63.15
स कृत्वा नैष्ठिकीं बुद्धिं जेतुकामो महायशाः।
कौशिकीतीरमासाद्य तपस्तेपे सुदारुणम्॥
sa kṛtvā naiṣṭhikīṁ buddhiṁ jetu-kāmo mahā-yaśāḥ
kauśikī-tīram āsādya tapas tepe sudāruṇam
sa kṛtvā naiṣṭhikīm buddhim = becoming firmly determined to complete his vow [of becoming a qualified brahmarṣi]; jetu-kāmaḥ = with a desire to conquer his senses; mahā-yaśāḥ = Viśvāmitra of great fame; kauśikī-tīram = the banks of the river Kauśikī; āsādya = then reached and; tapaḥ tepe sudāruṇam = performed very terrible austerities.
Becoming firmly determined to complete his vow [of becoming a qualified brahmarṣi], with a desire to conquer his senses, Viśvāmitra of great fame then reached the banks of the river Kauśikī and performed very terrible austerities.
