Chapter 68: Daśaratha Delighted
Text 1.68.11
अस्मै देया मया सीता वीर्यशुल्का महात्मने।
प्रतिज्ञां कर्तुमिच्छामि तदनुज्ञातुमर्हसि॥
asmai deyā mayā sītā vīrya-śulkā mahātmane
pratijñāṁ kartum icchāmi tad anujñātum arhasi
asmai = to this; deyā = will be given; mayā = by me; sītā = Sītā; vīrya-śulkā = whose price was strength; mahā-ātmane = great soul Rāma; pratijñām kartum icchāmi = I wish to fulfill my promise [that Sītā will be bestowed to whoever can handle Lord Śiva’s bow]; tat = it; anujñātum arhasi = please permit.
Sītā whose price was strength will be given by me to this great soul Rāma. I wish to fulfill my promise [that Sītā will be bestowed to whoever can handle Lord Śiva’s bow]. Please permit it.
