Chapter 69: Daśaratha Reaches Mithilā
Text 1.69.16
धर्मिष्ठं च यशस्यं च वचनं सत्यवादिनः।
श्रुत्वा विदेहाधिपतिः परं विस्मयमागतः॥
dharmiṣṭhaṁ ca yaśasyaṁ ca vacanaṁ satya-vādinaḥ
śrutvā videhādhipatiḥ paraṁ vismayam āgataḥ
dharmiṣṭham = that were based on dharma; ca = and; yaśasyam ca = conducive to fame; vacanam = the words; satya-vādinaḥ = of the honest King Daśaratha; śrutvā = hearing; videha-adhipatiḥ = the ruler of Videha; param = extremely; vismayam āgataḥ = was surprised.
Hearing the words of the honest King Daśaratha that were based on dharma and conducive to fame, the ruler of Videha was extremely surprised.
King Janaka was extremely surprised to hear the humble words of King Daśaratha.
