एवमुक्त्वा नरश्रेष्ठे राज्ञां मध्ये महात्मनाम्।
तूष्णीं भूते दशरथे वसिष्ठो भगवानृषिः।
उवाच वाक्यं वाक्यज्ञो वैदेहं सपुरोधसम्॥
evam uktvā nara-śreṣṭhe rājñāṁ madhye mahātmanām
tūṣṇīṁ bhūte daśarathe vasiṣṭho bhagavān ṛṣiḥ
uvāca vākyaṁ vākyajño vaidehaṁ sapurodhasam
evam uktvā = after speaking thus; nara-śreṣṭhe = king; rājñām madhye = in the midst of kings; mahā-ātmanām = who were great souls; tūṣṇīm bhūte = became silent; daśarathe = Daśaratha; vasiṣṭhaḥ = Vasiṣṭha; bhagavān ṛṣiḥ = the powerful sage; uvāca = spoke then; vākyam = the following words; vākyajñaḥ = who knew how to speak; vaideham = to Janaka; sa-purodhasam = and his priests.
After speaking thus in the midst of kings who were great souls, King Daśaratha became silent. Then the powerful sage Vasiṣṭha, who knew how to speak, spoke the following words to Janaka and his priests.
