सुवर्णशृङ्गाः सम्पन्नाः सवत्साः कांस्यदोहनाः।
गवां शतसहस्राणि चत्वारि पुरुषर्षभः॥
वित्तमन्यच्च सुबहु द्विजेभ्यो रघुनन्दनः।
ददौ गोदानमुद्दिश्य पुत्राणां पुत्रवत्सलः॥
suvarṇa-śṛṅgāḥ sampannāḥ savatsāḥ kāṁsya-dohanāḥ
gavāṁ śata-sahasrāṇi catvāri puruṣa-rṣabhaḥ
vittam anyac ca subahu dvijebhyo raghu-nandanaḥ
dadau go-dānam uddiśya putrāṇāṁ putra-vatsalaḥ
suvarṇa-śṛṅgāḥ = their horns were gold-plated; sampannāḥ = they were rich with milk; savatsāḥ = each was accompanied by her calf; kāṁsya-dohanāḥ = and a brass pot for milking her; gavām śata-sahasrāṇi catvāri = 400,000 cows; puruṣa-rṣabhaḥ = King Daśaratha; vittam anyat ca subahu = also a very great amount of wealth; dvijebhyaḥ = to brāhmaṇas; raghu-nandanaḥ = the beloved descendant of Raghu; dadau = gave; go-dānam = cows in charity; uddiśya putrāṇām = for the welfare of his sons; putra-vatsalaḥ = affectionate to his sons, Daśaratha.
King Daśaratha gave 400,000 cows in charity. Their horns were gold-plated. They were rich with milk. Each was accompanied by her calf and a brass pot for milking her. The beloved descendant of Raghu also gave a very great amount of wealth in charity to brāhmaṇas. Affectionate to his sons, Daśaratha gave cows in charity for the welfare of his sons.
