Chapter 77: The Newly-wed Couples Reach Ayodhyā
Text 1.77.2
अभिवाद्य ततो रामो वसिष्ठप्रमुखानृषीन्।
पितरं विह्वलं दृष्ट्वा प्रोवाच रघुनन्दनः॥
abhivādya tato rāmo vasiṣṭha-pramukhān ṛṣīn
pitaraṁ vihvalaṁ dṛṣṭvā provāca raghu-nandanaḥ
abhivādya = offered His respectful obeisances; tataḥ = then; rāmaḥ = Rāma; vasiṣṭha-pramukhān = headed by Vasiṣṭha; ṛṣīn = unto the sages; pitaram = His father; vihvalam = was disturbed; dṛṣṭvā = he noticed that and; provāca = spoke to him as follows; raghu-nandanaḥ = the beloved descendant of Raghu.
Then, Rāma, the beloved descendant of Raghu, offered His respectful obeisances unto the sages headed by Vasiṣṭha. He noticed that His father was disturbed and spoke to him as follows.
That Daśaratha was disturbed indicates that he was unaware of Paraśurāma’s description of Lord Rāma’s supremacy and Lord Rāma’s entrusting the bow with Varuṇa.
