Chapter 8: Daśaratha Decides to Perform the Aśvamedha Sacrifice

सम्भाराः सम्भ्रियन्तां ते तुरङ्गश्च विमुच्यताम्।
सरय्वाश्चोत्तरे तीरे यज्ञभूमिर्विधीयताम्॥
sambhārāḥ sambhriyantāṁ te turaṅgaś ca vimucyatām
sarayvāś cottare tīre yajña-bhūmir vidhīyatām
sambhārāḥ = paraphernalia for the sacrifice; sambhriyantām = arrange for; te = the; turaṅgaḥ ca = the horse for the Aśvamedha sacrifice; vimucyatām = release; sarayvāḥ ca = of the Sarayū; uttare = on the northern; tīre = bank; yajña-bhūmiḥ = a sacrificial arena; vidhīyatām = set aside
Arrange for all the paraphernalia for the sacrifice. Release the horse for the Aśvamedha sacrifice. Set aside a sacrificial arena on the northern bank of the Sarayū.
