Chapter 8: Daśaratha Decides to Perform the Aśvamedha Sacrifice

विसर्जयित्वा तान्विप्रान्सचिवानिदमब्रवीत्।
ऋत्विग्भिरुपदिष्टोऽयं यथावत्क्रतुराप्यताम्॥
visarjayitvā tān viprān sacivān idam abravīt
ṛtvigbhir upadiṣṭo ’yaṁ yathāvat kratur āpyatām
visarjayitvā = having sent off; tān = those; viprān = brāhmaṇas; sacivān = his secretaries; idam abravīt = he told; ṛtvigbhiḥ = by the priests; upadiṣṭaḥ = as instructed; ayam = the ingredients of this; yathāvat = properly; kratuḥ = sacrifice; āpyatām = provide.
Having sent off those brāhmaṇas, he told his secretaries, “Properly provide the ingredients of this sacrifice as instructed by the priests.”
