Chapter 9: Conversation Between Sumantra and Daśaratha

अनावृष्ट्यां तु वृत्तायां राजा दुःखसमन्वितः।
ब्राह्मणाञ्श्रुतवृद्धांश्च समानीय प्रवक्ष्यति॥
anāvṛṣṭyāṁ tu vṛttāyāṁ rājā duḥkha-samanvitaḥ
brāhmaṇāñ śruta-vṛddhāṁś ca samānīya pravakṣyati
anāvṛṣṭyām tu = over the drought; vṛttāyām = that had come about; rājā = the king; duḥkha-samanvitaḥ = filled with distress; brāhmaṇān = the brāhmaṇas; śruta-vṛddhān ca = who have matured by learning several scriptures from several teachers and; samānīya = will call; pravakṣyati = speak as follows.
Filled with distress over the drought that will come about, the king will call the brāhmaṇas who have matured by learning several scriptures from several teachers and speak as follows.
